OC teams do research to gain an understanding of the spiritual, social and demographic conditions of the areas in which we serve. We use the results of the research to guide our teams’ ministries and to encourage and challenge the local and national church, organizations and networks. Often research forms the basis for collaborative action in church planting and church health. Research may be focused on the strengths and weakness of the churches, the spiritual needs and condition of the community, and on methods of ministry that have been shown to be effective. We see research as both a technical discipline and a spiritual activity. We combine the use of various research methods with prayer to learn and discern the information that will direct us and be useful to the Body of Christ.
